Mallyan Spout

Mallyan Spout is situated near the picturesque village of Goathland, made famous by the tv series 'Heartbeat'.
The waterfall, which is situated in a deep gorge, has a drop of arouund 60 feet, making it the highest waterfall in the North York Moors National Park. The water cascading from Mallyan Spout rises from springs in the moorland above Goathland until it flows into New Wath Scar.
The deep ravine was cut by West Beck, at Mallyan Spout the sides of the ravine rise to around 70 feet high and are almost vertical.
A footpath runs by the waterfall. Mallyan Spout is impressive after heavy rain, in dry weather it can be rather disappointing.
Directions
Mallyan Spout is best approached from the village of Goathland. A path runs down to West Beck, starting just to the right of the Mallyan Spout hotel, at the western end of the village. The path down can often be very wet. There are several climbs and descents throughout, including long flights of steps to reach the waterfall. On arriving at the beck, turn left and follow the rocky ledge which runs along the side of the stream. Mallyan Spout is located about 500 feet along the stream.
