OS grid reference:- SE 813 996
Nelly Ayre Foss is situated on West Beck near the pretty North York Moors village of Goathland, made famous by the tv series 'Heartbeat' the village has a history extending back as far back as Viking times. The waterfall lies two kilometres upstream of Mallyan Spout waterfall. Nelly Ayre Foss is a wider but a shorter fall than Mallyan Spout.
The waterfalls in the north of England are often known as 'Force' or 'Foss', the name derives from the Old Norse word "Foss".
Head south-west from Goathland towards New Wath Farm. Just before the farm the road turns through a U-bend. Leave it on a path that runs to the left with open moors to the left and some fields to the right.
As the fields end, take the right-hand turn. Follow the path that gently cuts down the slope to the left to reach the beck, then turn back right and head down-stream towards the waterfall.
